THE LAND OF BUMPASS LIES WITHIN THE VAST WOODLANDS atop the Piedmont Plateau of Central Virginia. It is situated in northeastern Louisa County between the vicinities of Cukoo and Beaverdam. Bumpass, Virginia is a place immortalized by the less fortunate Americanization of the French namesake Bon Pas, meaning “good step.” It is near the North Anna Nuclear Generating Station and lake of the same name. Over the years, Bumpass has been the sight of numerous enterprises such as a chicken coop manufacturer, alpaca ranches and even an ice cream spoon factory. The area was so named to appease Capt. John Tom Bumpass when he famously refused to allow a railroad to be built through his property. Only under this condition, did he consent to have the “blamed thing,” as he called it, to pass. It is to Bumpass, Virginia that this old-fashioned country website is dedicated.
